Views from the Room - Sevelen, Switzerland

Image
When the universe works out, the results can be great! I've always wanted to see Liechtenstein and Luxembourg but both countries have been proven hard to reach. Mr. & Mrs. OB planned a road trip and my work schedule opened up a one week gap where I could meet them. So, here I am in Sevelen, gateway to Vaduz, Liechtenstein. To get here, I flew into Zurich, then was able to take the two hour train ride (one connection) to Sevelen and walk across the road to get to the motel. It's a tiny place up in the mountains and there are still small amounts of snow even with the record freaking heatwave! 94F is the forecast and we're going to be climbing castle hills today! Anyhow back to the post header - the views from Room 6 at the B_Motel.

Park area in Regina

Image
For a small city, there's a great deal of park/lake area in the center of town. People were out making the most of the summer day. Candy Cane park - marked on both sides of the parking lot with odd shaped Candy Canes.  Looking along the lake.  Cute but messy!  Sculpture in the park.

Regina, Canada

Many local businesses in Regina all have wall murals to brighten up the city. In a place that's snowy much of the year it helps to have reminders of sun and brightness. The cultural heritage one below is right in the city center district.  The sunset over the lake is on the side of a print shop. This one is from the walking promenade where the street market is held. And the one on the side of the pizzeria.

Moose Jaw, Canada

Image
It's Canada Day and for the 3rd time in 5 years, I'm in Canada working. Since not a lot of work happens today it was time to go exploring!  Off to Moose Jaw and a look at their Murals of Moose Jaw. 46 Art and History scenes dot the small town. Wandering about was the easy way to explore the town and see what influenced the growth of the area. Scottish heritage near a local tavern   Air Force Blue - a tribute to the training of pilots on the local base  Cruising Main Street in the 1920's  Fire Watch  Sunka Hansa - a shaman of Sitting Bull's group how came to Moose Jaw after the battle of Little Big Horn and stayed until his death in 1971.

Marriage Equality

Things that make full on history for years and years seem to have all happened in the past way before I was born. Today's ruling on all 50 states now have to have marriage equality was a strange thing to think that this is a moment in time that may possibly go on school textbook exams right up there with racial equality and women's right to vote rulings. After watching this through the years, seeing gay friend's civil partnership ceremonies, legal weddings in California, then no legal weddings in California, and then back to legal again, I am happy for all the people who want to wed. That said, I think they're crazy in some ways. Different sex couples have been leading the way on the right to live together without marriage for years now. And that's illegal in many countries. In fact you'd get stoned to death in some countries if men/women lived together and men/men or woman/woman. I guess inequality is consistent there. What we're hopefully working towar...

Happy Father's Day!

Image
In the spirit of Father's Day, I'm using my Dad's tree trimmer and joe to dig up the lavender they took over everything. Turned out there was  tree in there fighting to live. A big ass giant spider was also there and I hope its relocated elsewhere. Next project once the sun has gone down is to get that baby palm out before it takes root under the concrete.

Street Art Baltimore

Image
This is my slowest year for flying in over a decade. Not one to let the situation get worse I found a cheap  fare and went off to Baltimore to log in some miles. Yes there's history and a nice harbor. I highly recommend going and seeing those places. I've been there. This time was to explore something different in an easy to get to metro ride from the hotel. The streets of course! Don't have trees? Paint some!  Wyland was here in 1993. Amazing that this has lasted over 20 years without getting defaced.  Baltimore City history and politics. This is in a small park next to the stadium.  And part of a neighborhood wall mural.
