Juneau - Salmon Hatchery

Juneau took me on the tour bus circuit. First up - the Salmon Hatchery. Face it - unless you are really passionate about salmon breeding and preservation, this can be a boring stop. In fact, I was bored. At least there was a mounted 93 lb. King Salmon on the wall. Hmm, as I type this, I now realize I'm in the dreaded cruise ship state of "less full". I could go for 93 lbs. of salmon about right now!
 Yup, a tree. Cute little pine tree. Did I mention I was bored?
 Hurray for the seal! Excitement at last.
 Seagulls. Same here as at home.

Back to the contrasting images in Belgrade. This building was bombed by NATO in the late 90's and still has boarded windows today. The banners in the street are for an upcoming Beer Fest which shows that life is festive and goes on even when reconstruction lags in other areas. Inside the courtyard of several buildings are more murals, depicting an inner beauty to the city that you don't see from the streets. Then you have the ridiculous amount of money that was spent on building the Temple of Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church. This building isn't old or historic and only completed in 2020 after an initial ground-breaking in 1935 followed by interruptions of conflict and war. The building is huge and a good picture would probably need to be done by drone. The interior is spectacular. The estimated cost is 100 million Euros and 50 million was from private donations. The government of Serbia contributed 40 million and Russia 10 million. I hope this pays of

Dinner at Poseidon Del Mar

When life gets you down - go to the beach. It's always worked for me but sometimes the experience is exceptional beyond belief. In the roundabout way that life works, LJ's friend Chef Tim is the Executive Chef at the Poseidon Restaurant in Del Mar. Lisa has wanted to go there for years (unknown to me) to try the food and about 6 weeks ago, she asked if I would join her to check out Chef Tim's cooking. I knew we'd have a good meal but I had no idea what we were in for - starting with one of the best seats on the beach! The food was great so a couple of times I forgot to take pictures as I dove in straight for the food. We were able to sample on and off menu items until we popped. First up, above, was the cleanser shot - a cucumber mango something that I can't spell or pronounce. It tasted like cucumber. Below, my favorite of the night.
