Ack!

Image
After 60 minutes of careful reading and following I was able to get the various colors to change in the right way. Now I know how to use up spare time if I'm so inclined to play with colors. It feels great to have done the work now time for the quiz!

It's hurting my brain!

Image
I'm two hours into the lesson and really have to stop for the night. Two hours more to go I'm sure, mainly because I followed instructions but somehow....I didn't. Nice colors, but I doubt I could recreate this if I tried. Somehow my custom swatch and Kuler swatches didn't save. Even so, this is more than I could do two hours ago even if I only was able to change the ocean color and nothing else.

Illustrator - Shapes

Image
Basic but I already forgot how to "group" in panels instead of microsoft word "group." Time to go back to lesson #1 and do it again. No, not really. Time to goof off!

Illustrator - third attempt

Image
I didn't like this when I created it but it's growing on me. I'm actually surprised that I did this, it's so unlike me.

Illustrator - second attempt

Image
This one was using simple trace and 16 color with no modification. I had the file too large and too much information so Illustrator kept freezing up and it was harder to work with than a 50,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Art style vs reality. I think I might want a poster of the art style.

Learning Illustrator

Image
Thanks to my brother I have been inspired to take a class in Adobe Illustrator. Lesson One - learn to trace a photo and recolor and save as a jpg. Lesson learned - when the instructor says "don't use small file size photos" pay attention. Mistake 1 made and slightly corrected but now I need to do a different photo. That's why I'm in the beginner class! Not the look I was going for so time for more practice.

Long Beach

Image
These were taken Tuesday around 10:30 am in Long Beach. The water was empty except for the ducks. No incoming boats or even joggers were about.  The Queen Mary isn't looking so impressive today. It must be time for an annual ship-shine or something. Could be the lack of blue sky that day but I remember this ship having better days.

Sunrise

Image
It's not often you get a clear morning sunrise at the central coast. This was about 6:15 am today in Santa Barbara. This was a great start to the day!

Home and Catching Up

Home and happy to be out of the cold. (Not counting that Friday freak storm). Sunny CA is great right now. Thoughts Grammy's - glad Gotye got the major awards. I rarely ever own the music by the winners so this is a first. Bafta's - right choices with Argo winning major awards. That was the best movie I saw in 2012. Super Bowl - not as exciting when watching it in another country. And all the commercials are replaced by local station commercials. Oscars - not so interested but looking forward to the fashion. Weeds - I was only gone two weeks. How did so many dandelions spring up in the backyard? House ReFi - PNC FAIL! Rejected after 5 months because my homeowner's condo questionnaire wasn't complete. Don't know how to explain we are not a condo unit and that the questions are N/A. Giving up on them and working to pay off the loan and take away any extra interest from PNC that I can. That sums it up for now. Hope all of you are having a great Monday!

Vancouver at Night

Image
Night falls early in the winter, right around 5:17 pm. We went to dinner in Gastown for some fun and congrats on another work project up and running. The Steam Clock was churning away and in daylight, this isn't that cool. But at night with the building lighting up with various colors and the tree lights made for a festive photo. Then it was on to Steamworks Brew Pub for Oatmeal Stout and a ton of food. Try the Nachos if you go there, they plate is huge and tasty.  The team dinner. Cheers!

Seaplane Terminal

Image
Vancouver's Seaplane Terminal is located at Canada Place, near the convention center. The seaplanes offer service to areas around BC but at this time of year morning flights are often cancelled due to weather conditions. That was why so many seaplanes were docked today. It occurred to me that I have never traveled by seaplane before. I think it's time to remedy that situation in the future. This looks like fun!  Lined up but grounded due to fog. There are two different seaplane services. I found the link to Harbour Air if you are interested in more information. I think the mail route would be a fun trip to take!   http://www.harbour-air.com/index.php

The Sun Almost Shines

Image
After 11 days in Vancouver, the sun is finally trying to make an appearance. The fog starts to lift from the water, revealing glimpses of snow. The trees are visible again.  Not quite clear enough to show how pretty this city is.  Wait! There's the sun glistening off the high rise if only for a moment.
