Spock

Like all Trekkies I was sad to hear the news about Leonard Nimoy's death. Spock was such a pivotal character in my life in ways that only a Trekkie gets. Learning how to get my fingers into the perfect V salutation, using mind over body power, and uttering "Illogical" and "Live Long & Proper" to name a few. Leonard Nimoy was a great speaker at conventions and his roles later in his career were fun cameos of either himself confronted with fans or as original Spock in the new movies. Star Trek and the character of Spock live on but someone wonderful has left the world and with it, a piece of what made fandom so special.

71 - What a Great Number!

It took a year to do it, 5000 units of vitamin D3 a day and the results are in - my D level is at a super healthy 71 up from a severe low of 19. The lowest healthy level is 30 so I had a lot of ground to make up! I was worried that I was taking too much but you're not toxic until 100 so all is good. And I'm enjoying a cheese quesadilla tonight to celebrate another year of cholesterol at good levels and an increase in LDL counts. The cheese-fest will end tonight but it had to be done after 3 weeks of tight control on the animal fats. On  to the Oscars. I used to make an effort to see the best picture nominees. This year I haven't  been inspired to make the effort and am saving up for airplane movie viewing. If only there was a Neflix queue of binge viewing on award day. That would be cool. Hmmm. Too late now but as I'm watching the Oscar Red Carpet people, I'm starting to regret that quesadilla. Anyhow, forget that and join me in the virtual high-five on that

Ventura Morning

Image
Ended up staying in Ventura last night and had the free time to beach walk this morning. It's a perfect winter day!

Sunday Afternoon

Life. A heat wave in SoCal and a blizzard on the beach in Boston. While I'm sweating it out with no a/c I think I'd be miserable in snow even with the best heater on the planet. I'm glad this is an upcoming meeting week with hotel life and a/c in the room. I almost saw Kingsman in the theater yesterday. I even bought a ticket online and then when I was waiting for the confirmation to come in I managed to drop my iPad on top of my foot, sideways, not flat and smacked the crap out of the top layer of vein and muscle. Ouch, ouch, ouch! Yes, I was barefoot. It's totally hot right now. So 5 hours later of ice pack and arnica gel I managed to not have any swelling or bruising and watched Doctor Who the rest of the day. I'm glad I got my exercise in before all this happened. So maybe next weekend for the movies.  I did finish up project remove ice plant yesterday and it's a relief to have it out. Now I need rain since the dirt is rock hard again after this last hea

Happy Tuesday

One last one in this week's beach series. Why is SoCal having such great weather? I'm enjoying it but starting to get suspicious that we are in for one long hot summer again. While my mind is jumping about, it's great feeling to know that my attic is currently bird and rat free. A bird was chirping away at me this morning and I get the feeling that I know who is locked out of his home....

More Event Updating without actual Photos of Event

On top of not taking photos of interesting events, I went to McCabe's guitar shop in Santa  Monica to hear Al Stewart perform. (Year of the Cat guy, since most people have never heard of him.) McCabe's is a great small venue right inside a guitar shop and there are no bad seats. We were in the front row and it was 90 minutes of classic Al. No pictures of that event but here's another one  from Carlsbad.

Blogging gets away from me these days. Instagram is so easy to send up a photo and mindless thought. I last left this in San Francisco at a Doctor Who convention. I went with friends for a panel with Eleven, Amy, and Rory and it was a blast. Then did a quick turnaround back home and no other activities other than eating. Came home and went right into the work week and that went by way to fast. So today, it's beach time.
