Evening beer for the day - Kona Brewing Company's Fire Rock Pale Ale. Just popped it open to relax while I blog. I've been looking for a way to post travel logs and the old web site just didn't fit the bill anymore. The next upcoming trip is still a month off - NYC for Memorial Day Weekend. Benderbrau and I were at McCabe's back in January listening to Al Stewart when we decided to go off to London and see Al live in concert there. Well that was damn expensive so we ditched that plan and decided on NY. That was better bacause at Al's concert in Feb. he spoke to us. Not literally of course, but the opening number was "In Brooklyn" so we knew it was a sign from Al. Good thing too since the plane tickets had been purchased.

Innsbruck - here despite it never being on my to-see list
First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up. Changing the flight to Vienna would result in penalties and possibly fare increases so I made the best of it and thought, where can I go in Austria where I've never been? Innsbruck, hmm. Can I get a free flight from Vienna? Yes! Can I get a free hotel room? Yes. Check! The city is picture perfect though. Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, it's green, colorful, and everything you could want a place to be when the purpose is total work decompression. No major sightseeing, no expectations. You, a city and a view. It's walkable and small. You've got to look up, left and right,
Stained Glass - Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro
Yesterday's tour included a quick stop to run inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and take photos of the stained glass. Glass looks best when it is sunny outside and we had sun in abundance! I need to find a camera setting that works with cathedrals. Stained glass is one of the more difficult things to photograph well.
