Batiquitos Lagoon - Carlsbad

I've lived near this lagoon for years and today was the first time it occurred to me to see if there were walking trails around it. Turns out, there are. The trail goes along the lagoon which is a protected tidal wetland. Plenty of bird watching for the birders. The trail is flat and leashed dogs are welcome which makes it a fun outing.

 A few flowers grow but the area is mostly full of salt water plants. I only walked a short portion of the trail. This will be one to come back to sometime.

First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up.
