Mondo and Ms. Kitty came over yesterday to escape the craziness of the OB Street Fair. It was scrapbook city and I have my NYC pictures complete! Ms. Kitty on the other hand is still putting pictures of fish into her album and she may be stuck working on that trip forever. We forged on with the help of the Juneau Brewing Company and their Oatmeal Stout and Amber Ale.

We watched a B&W 1946 classic "Brief Encounter" from the Noel Coward play "Still Life." It's about two married people who meet on a train station and start a short, doomed, romance. It's so conservative that the inside DVD jacket tells a story of how audiences laughed at it in 1965. It is a reflection of the time and the issues and concerns of the two people provide an insight into a time & mindset that no longer exists.

Later it was off to Hennesey's for dinner and Guiness and then we were in the right frame of mind to wander Blockbuster for another movie. Getting the three of us to agree is a time consuming task and Mondo came up with Spellbound. I laughed and said who wants to watch a movie about spelling bees? It turned out that we all did because the movie is great! It follows 8 kids going to the 1999 spelling bee championship in DC. They all come from such different backgrounds and lives and it's fascinating to see how their parents work and overwork with them to memorize the dictionary. It is a comedy because you just can't make this stuff up. We cheered for Harry, the little spaz. Check it out at your local video or for more info go to:

Update on Ms. Kitty's scrapbook--the fish pages are finally done! (though without the aid of a most excellent oatmeal stout) I do have to say that I'm mighty pleased with my pics in front of the Vancouver Aquarium shark tank, ala Mulder and Deep Throat in "E.B.E."

As an update, Ms. Kitty DID finally finish the fish pages--and is particularly happy with the last page which included pics in front of the Vancouver Aquarium's shark tank, ala Mulder and Deep Throat from "E.B.E."

And speaking of spastic, I think I may have posted the same info twice--I didn't think it took the first time. Forgive the newbie here...

I would like to clarify that I pasted no fish or NYC pictures into any scrapbook (not that there is anything wrong with that.) I sat on the couch and read a book (Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux--I recommend it highly) and several magazines in between movies.
