Movie week continues with "Sideways." A friend encouraged me to see it and bring a bottle of Pinot Noir to drink in the theater. I didn't realize that "Sideways" is a movie about wine but it is. Actually it is more about wine is a metaphor for life type movie as two buddies deal with their hopes and failures for love which wine serves as a backdrop for the movie.

We follow along with Miles and Jack as they take a road trip the week before Jack's wedding to live their glory years one last time. Miles has the goal to educate Jack about wine, Jack has the goal to help Miles understand friendship and women. As the week goes on, the two have a series of mishaps and misunderstandings, while drinking red at every opportunity. Both characters are less than perfect and not too concerned about how their actions will impact the people around them. As we the audience follow along in this one week of their lives, we come to understand Miles and Jack, and end up hoping for the best for both of them.

The movie moves along at a decent pace and doesn't get too bogged down with extra storylines or dialogue. We learn a lot about Pinot Noir and arrive at the end precisely when we should. It's well acted and will appeal to fans of character driven buddy movies that play true to life but lack the Hollywood glitz and glamour of the major studios.
