It turned out to be a triple stout night! If I played the lotto, yesterday would have been the day! We showed up early and were able to get the last table in the bar. I guess this Firken beer was a bigger deal than I thought. The Firken was going to be a stout, so I went ahead and made my beer of choice Strauss Stout. LJ went for the Oatmeal Stout. Our waiter told us the Firken would be passed out for free but in only small samples, so we ordered large. When your evening is centered around waiting for more beer, conversation runs the all over the board. Ours covered Street Scene, the Monday Barf event, the Fortune Cookie, past beer and future beer, and I believe we've partially talked ourselves into going on next year's Star Trek cruise. Looking back on it in the morning light of sobriety, I'm amazed that I can keep it all straight. I'm pretty sure movies, Comic-Con, gaming, and the usual SF related topics were involved too.

Then it was time for the Firken Keg Tapping. The tapper stands on a barstool and the keg is mounted on the bar, and the tapper proceeds to use a big mallet to get the beer flowing inside the keg. When it opens, it's just like Sea World and the splash zone, the beer sprays out of the keg and if you're wearing white you soon find that beerstains are the stylish trend tonight. Our samples are passed out and fresh from the source beer is really good beer. Even the stouts are lighter in taste and as drinkable as Coke or Pepsi. Our waiter made sure we had the first beer and then made sure we had more. The samples are free flowing if you have the right waiter!
