Sin City

"Sin City" will be the movie that critics rave about but audiences will probably skip it in favor of more light hearted entertainment. To enjoy "Sin City," you need to be able to find humor in graphic over the top violence and not get it confused with reality. Luckily for me, I am that person. This is comic book crime come to life and the movie does a great job blending the style of film and animation, black & white, with color only to illustrate the starkness of the background. In short, this is a film that's heavy on style and it works well.

The men are gritty killers and the women are sexy killers. It starts and ends with death and the plot in-between is all about crime and crime fighters. There are 3 anti-heros in the movie, played extremely well by Clive Owen, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke. But hats off to Bencio Del Toro for his role as a talking corpse that tops anything he's ever done before!

The women are played by various current hot actresses but Jessica Alba will rightly get the most recogntion for her role as Nancy. Every man wil envy Bruce Willis for a moment.

"Sin City" consists of 3 separate stories that slightly intertwine with one another. With a running time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, it goes on just a bit too long. I had the sense that the director couldn't bear to cut any of the cool stuff out and as a result the pacing dragged a bit near the end. However the movie ends exactly the way it should and there was no disappointment.

If "Sin City" is for you, you already know by now so go out and see it. For everyone else, get outside and see a baseball game this weekend.
