Muscat, Oman - the view from the 6th floor balcony of my hotel room. Local law requires that all building exteriors are to be painted white and there are no exceptions. As a result, there is a lot of neon and colored sparklers to draw attention to area businesses. I won't see much of Oman on this trip but it's supposed to be one of the most diverse countries for the ocean and mountains in the Gulf Coast Countries. Oman used to be British ruled until about 30-35 years ago. The hotel is swarming with tourists. I don't know what they're all going to do, we're several hours from the ocean and I haven't seen any reason yet why I would come all the way here to relax. The Times of Oman is focused more on business and a good variety of news, instead of regional conflicts. That stuff is in there but the articles are more balanced in nature than what is in print in Jordan and Lebanon.

Innsbruck - here despite it never being on my to-see list
First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up. Changing the flight to Vienna would result in penalties and possibly fare increases so I made the best of it and thought, where can I go in Austria where I've never been? Innsbruck, hmm. Can I get a free flight from Vienna? Yes! Can I get a free hotel room? Yes. Check! The city is picture perfect though. Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, it's green, colorful, and everything you could want a place to be when the purpose is total work decompression. No major sightseeing, no expectations. You, a city and a view. It's walkable and small. You've got to look up, left and right,
Stained Glass - Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro
Yesterday's tour included a quick stop to run inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and take photos of the stained glass. Glass looks best when it is sunny outside and we had sun in abundance! I need to find a camera setting that works with cathedrals. Stained glass is one of the more difficult things to photograph well.
Those are some white buildings! How do they keep them clean?
