One of the differences between the work week at home and on the road is that TGIF means something at home. Friday night there is usually a Firkin, or a movie, or dinner. Saturday and Sunday if not filled with activities are two days without work. Overseas, it's always work. Even on a day off it's used either as a travel day or an office day. There is not a lot to do in the places where I spend the most time. This is my first true weekend off in something like 8 weeks. Today will be a long one. There has been a lot of new work and unfinished work that poppped up this week. But at the end of the day that's it. Time to relax and have fun! What a great concept!

Innsbruck - here despite it never being on my to-see list
First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up. Changing the flight to Vienna would result in penalties and possibly fare increases so I made the best of it and thought, where can I go in Austria where I've never been? Innsbruck, hmm. Can I get a free flight from Vienna? Yes! Can I get a free hotel room? Yes. Check! The city is picture perfect though. Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, it's green, colorful, and everything you could want a place to be when the purpose is total work decompression. No major sightseeing, no expectations. You, a city and a view. It's walkable and small. You've got to look up, left and right,
Stained Glass - Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro
Yesterday's tour included a quick stop to run inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and take photos of the stained glass. Glass looks best when it is sunny outside and we had sun in abundance! I need to find a camera setting that works with cathedrals. Stained glass is one of the more difficult things to photograph well.
OK, I give up, what the hell is a firkin?
