The last day at sea was busy. First up, was the Mariner's reception for past passengers. There all the long time Holland America Line (HAL) cruisers get their recognition medallions. Since those are people with 100 plus HAL days, most of us went there for the free drinks. At this point in the trip I was so tired of champagne since we'd had free glasses and bottles of it for the entire time I ended up just getting a diet coke and watching in amazment that some people have cruised over 500 days with one line. There was a lady there who took her first trip with HAL in the early 50's when she graduated from college. It was all very impressive but as soon as it ended we were out of there because there was a lunch about to be served for the guests in the deluxe suites.

Terri and I went to the Crow's nest and settled in for the lunch. I was lucky enough to get a glass of red wine here, for some reason the ship was happy to give out free champagne and white wine but red was a treasured commodity. At any rate I received my glass and then went to the buffet. Now on this cruise, I was not impressed with the food. It didn't live up to the food on past cruises and I didn't eat as much as I normally do when I'm at home. But this lunch the chef went all out for shrimp dishes and they were great! It was a world of shrimp! And the desserts were so good I had to go back for seconds. What really made the lunch special was the captain came over and chatted with us a while about the Star Trek cruise.

After that we had to go to the Trek room because Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips were doing their second play as the Holograph Doctor and Neelix. The best part was all the ad lib, stage screw-ups, and references to the audience that made their play more fun than if they had done it straight. It's funny that some of the actors keep finding ways to play their Trek character even after the show has gone off the air.

Next up was Trek Family Feud which turned out to be a slaughter for most of the teams including mine. There are some very competitive trivia Trekkies out there and they take no prisoners. The team I was on never had a chance and we were eliminated quickly.

This was followed by the charity auction where the actors bring items from the set, or retail items related to their characters which are auctioned off for charity. They raised $3900 in about 40 minutes.

Now the last part of every Trek cruise is the actor's entertainment hour where they put on a show for us. Singing is usually involved and this was no exception. Chase Masterson sang "Latnium is a Girl's Best Friend" and she wrote the words as if it were sung by Leeta the Dabo Girl. Robert Picardo did a few of his Voyager parody songs, and Ethan Phillips gave us 30 minutes of stand-up joke telling. Then we were treated to the Enterprise Blues Band which was formed by Vaughn Armstrong and is made up of Trek related people. Tonight it was Vaughn and Casey and they actually write their own Trek songs and music. So even the actors get caught up in our world these days.

Once the entertainment hour was over we ran off to our final dinner and spent the rest of the evening getting each other's e-mail and web site info. There's only 7.5 months to go before we do it all again on the Baltic Sea.
