So much for this week. We’re working in the dark although my picture got the backflash of the glass so it looks light but with no power, this assignment isn’t going as planned. As the batteries were running low on the computers it was time to relocate to the food court and get some power. For all the great times on the road, this is one of those nights where I’m bored in a hotel, the internet was down, and I had crackers for dinner since I didn’t feel like eating alone. Pretty sad day in the business travel life.

Innsbruck - here despite it never being on my to-see list
First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up. Changing the flight to Vienna would result in penalties and possibly fare increases so I made the best of it and thought, where can I go in Austria where I've never been? Innsbruck, hmm. Can I get a free flight from Vienna? Yes! Can I get a free hotel room? Yes. Check! The city is picture perfect though. Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, it's green, colorful, and everything you could want a place to be when the purpose is total work decompression. No major sightseeing, no expectations. You, a city and a view. It's walkable and small. You've got to look up, left and right,
Stained Glass - Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro
Yesterday's tour included a quick stop to run inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and take photos of the stained glass. Glass looks best when it is sunny outside and we had sun in abundance! I need to find a camera setting that works with cathedrals. Stained glass is one of the more difficult things to photograph well.
On my first work related trip to Mexico I was in the customer's plant for about 10 minutes when the power went out. The windows were all covered out so it was pitch black and the ventilation system turned off so the room filled with fumes from the ovens. They told me it happened every day.
