Checking in but nothing to write about. Work has kept me busy and I seem to have less downtime in Bahrain than in Kuwait. We're trying to cram in more work here because we're bringing in people from other countries to meet with us. Since I can't go to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi guys are here. Last night they told me about the zoo in Riyadh. It turns out that when the zoo is open, women are only allowed to go one day a week. The rest of the week, only men. Families cannot go together. It is either men or women but never mixed except for small children. On women's day at the zoo, all the monkeys have to wear pampers. Go figure.

Innsbruck - here despite it never being on my to-see list
First the backstory. In about a week I'll be boarding a cruise ship (this year's Cruise Trek) in Romania. When I booked the flight many months ago, I had a brilliant idea to go in a week early to Vienna and use it as a base to spend a few nights each in Albania and Bosnia. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and the Covid restrictions, flight schedules, and hotel prices made me give up. Changing the flight to Vienna would result in penalties and possibly fare increases so I made the best of it and thought, where can I go in Austria where I've never been? Innsbruck, hmm. Can I get a free flight from Vienna? Yes! Can I get a free hotel room? Yes. Check! The city is picture perfect though. Nestled in a valley between two mountain ranges, it's green, colorful, and everything you could want a place to be when the purpose is total work decompression. No major sightseeing, no expectations. You, a city and a view. It's walkable and small. You've got to look up, left and right,
Stained Glass - Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro
Yesterday's tour included a quick stop to run inside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and take photos of the stained glass. Glass looks best when it is sunny outside and we had sun in abundance! I need to find a camera setting that works with cathedrals. Stained glass is one of the more difficult things to photograph well.
Pampers? You're kidding right?
